Lashkar killed General Alvi for his role against terrorists

Rawalpindi, May 13 (ANI): The banned militant outfit Laskar-e-Taiba assassinated Major-General Aamir Faisal Alvi to avenge his role against militancy in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Islamabad Police said in a chargesheet.

On November 18 last year, the car of the former commander of the elite Special Services Group was sprayed with bullets when he was en-route to Islamabad.

Police said the alleged killers, who belong to the banned Lashkar-i-Taiba, followed the general when he left his residence in Bharia Town on the day of the attack

According to the charge sheet, against Major (r) Haroon Ashiq, Mohammad Nawaz Khan and Ashfaq Ahmed, the murder was ordered by Ilyas Kashmiri who provided funds and weapons.

The trio were arrested by the police when they were trying to kidnap a businessman.

During the interrogation, the accused told police they had been ordered to kill General Alvi, who had spearheaded a commando operation against militants at Angor Adda in South Waziristan in 2004.

In the chargesheet, the names of two Lashkar militants– Ilyas Kashmiri and Irfan–surfaced.

The next hearing in the case is on May 23. (ANI)
