JKLF stages protest to demand its slain leader’s mortal remains
February 11th, 2010 - 9:54 pm ICT by ANISrinagar, Feb.11 (ANI): A group of separatists staged a protest here on Thursday to demand the mortal remains of a slain leader of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), who was awarded capital punishment for killing an Indian intelligence officer.
Maqbool Bhat, founder member of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front was hanged in New Delhi on February 11, 1984.
On the occasion of his 26th death anniversary, separatists took out a protest march here and demanding from the government authorities to hand over their deceased leader’s mortal remains to his family.
On Thursday, carrying placards and banners, the protesters from Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Liberation Party (JKDLP) marched down the streets chanting slogans.
“We demand that the mortal remains of Maqbool be handed over to his family,” said Nisar Ahmed, a protester.
The protest was staged in violation of restrictions imposed by the authorities.
Every year Maqbool’s death anniversary is observed in Kashmir in the form of strike or shutdown called by the separatists.
JKLF declared a ceasefire with India in 1994 and has been fighting politically for its demands. (ANI)
