Japan bans shipment of shiitake mushrooms near Fukushima nuke plant
April 13th, 2011 - 2:01 pm ICT by ANITokyo, Apr 13 (ANI): Japan has imposed a ban on the shipment of shiitake mushrooms grown outdoors in areas near the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, citing high levels of radioactivity, said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano.
However, Kyodo News quoted Edano, as saying all shiitake mushrooms grown indoors in Fukushima Prefecture are safe.
The mushrooms are grown in five cities, eight towns and three villages of Fukushima.
The five cities where mushroom shipments have been banned are Date, Soma, Minamisoma, Tamura and Iwaki. The eight towns are Shinchi, Kawamata, Namie, Futaba, Okuma, Tomioka, Nahara and Hirono. The three villages are Iitate, Katsurao and Kawauchi. (ANI)
