New Delhi, Mar 9 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday turned down the petitions of former Kerala Power Minister R Balakrishnan Pillai and another official P.K. Sajeev seeking bail and review of its order awarding one year rigorous imprisonment in the decades-old Idamalayar dam corruption case.

An apex court bench of Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan also dismissed their application for hearing of the review petition in an open court instead of the usual practice of it being decided in the judges’ chambers.

The apex court, however, posted for tomorrow the hearing of the review petition made by another convicted official Ramabhadran Nair.

In a first for Kerala, the apex court had on February 10 convicted Pillai in a corruption case and sentenced him to one-year imprisonment.

The apex court had reversed the acquittal order passed by the Kerala High Court and found him guilty of conspiracy to cause a loss of over Rs. two crore to the Kerala State Electricity Board by awarding contracts for construction of a power tunnel and surge shaft of the Idamalayar hydro electricity power project to contractor Paulose (now deceased) at extraordinarily high rates.
