Guwahati, June 6 (ANI): Just Be Friendly, a voluntary animal lovers’ organization, here has deployed a novel eco-friendly mobile kennel to transport mongrels to its animal care center where the canines are tended, vaccinated, sterilized and treated for ailments.
The NGO has come up with the ingenious idea of a cycle-rickshaw cum kennel that goes from locality to locality picking up stray dogs. It also carries volunteers and staff attendants to dispense the task.
“This mobile kennel is very convenient. We can go to any lane to pick the dogs. We catch the street dogs and after giving them anti-rabies vaccine we release them back in the same locality where we picked them up,” said Shashank Shekhar Dutta, Chief Functionary, Just Be Friendly Guwahati.
“With the help of this cycle drawn kennel we can go into narrow lanes and cover more area. So this cycle-rickshaw kennel is very useful,” he added.
Reportedly. Guwahati has a very high density of stray dogs.
A survey carried out by this NGO accounted 3,000 for street dogs within in an area of 10 square kilometres.
Cases of rabies are also alarmingly high. Although a lot of research and attention has been paid to increase the living standard of the pedigree canines, the stray dogs are neglected and left at the mercy of nature. (ANI)
