Imphal, Feb 19 (ANI): “I want to go to school. I want to study, we too have a hope” was the theme of the musical concert staged recently in Manipur to raise funds for HIV positive children and to create awareness about AIDS.
The musical concert was held at the Bhaigyachandra Open Air Theatre in partnership with Manipur Network of Positive People, Social Awareness service Organization and Tamna Sanggai with the objective of promoting local community’s involvement in supporting children affected by AIDS.
The fund collected will be spent to educate these children.
Five prominent singers of the state including Ranbir Thouna, took part in the concert.
Speaking to ANI, Manipur Network of Positive People, General Secretary, Rita Devi said: “We are trying to help and support needy children infected with AIDS, who have not yet come under the project criteria. Ranbir himself wanted to help for the cause. That’s how the concert happened.”
“I’m participating in this event because AIDS affected children also need a good life. Through the funds that we collect from this concert, we would be able to contribute to their future. I’m delighted to be a part of the cause,” said Ranbir Thouna, singer.
People in the state came forward to support the cause by coming to the concert to see their favorite singers performing live on stage.
“AIDS doesn’t spread through social gathering or eating together. Such events will help people to understand and become more aware about AIDS and the stigma against the disease will be reduced,” said Bobo Singh, a local.
AIDS is emerging as a serious public health concern for the people in Manipur which has nearly 8 percent of India’s total HIV positive cases.
More than 6500 children in the state have been affected by HIV and AIDS. More than 900 children living with HIV and 2000 HIV affected children are supported by Manipur Network of Positive People. (ANI)
