These flowers are made by women working under S. Dhanabati Devi, who is spearheading the artificial flower making business from her residence at Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai in Imphal.
Dhanabati started making decorative flowers and dolls a decade ago with the aim of being self-employed and independent.
Her efforts have paid off, and there is now a rise in the demand for artificial flowers.
Her sister L. Premeshwori Devi later joined her in the business. More women have also been hired to increase productivity.
At present, products are sold in local markets and showcased at various exhibitions and fairs in the state.
“People especially unemployed ones, should involve themselves in such work to earn their livelihood. That way, there will be development. We use baskets, wires and other ingredients to make these flowers,” claimed Dhanbati Devi.
” I earn about Rs. 100 in a day. My family is not very big and so I am able to support it comfortably with my income,” added Nyomi Devi.
Dhanabati employs about ten women, all of whom earn a steady income and support their families.
The success of the venture is an example of what enterprising people in the state can do to start their own businesses. (ANI)
