Chennai, Dec 28 (ANI) : Floral replicas of Agra’s famous Taj Mahal and the Egyptian pyramids are attracting visitors to an exhibition being held at the Wesley School Ground in Chennai.
The show opened on Friday and will continue till January 3.
Organizers of the show claim that a show like this enhances tourism in the city and spreads awareness about different types of flowers.
Speaking to ANI, show organiser Naliyappan said : “The main highlight of the flower show is the Taj Mahal, the world-renowned Eiffel Tower, India Gate and the pyramids (of Giza) made of different types of flowers. The main idea behind organizing this show was to attract tourists from across the world, as nowadays, Chennai is emerging as a major tourists attraction.”
” I have never seen such a colorful display of flowers anywhere. I have been to many places like Ooty, but I have not seen such a big display of flowers. So, I am really happy that my kids also got a chance to see this show. I hope that there will be more ahead, this year,” said Smitha, a visitor.
Over 350 varieties of flowers, including imported blossoms, are on display at the -show. The show featured both indigenous and imported varieties of flowers such as roses, carnations, tulips, lilies and many more.
The show is seen as a platform for both floriculturists and prospective customers.
India is a small player in the 40 billion dollars global cut-flower industry, which is currently dominated by Holland, France, Italy, South Africa and Thailand. (ANI)
