Chennai, Mar.6 (ANI): Kalki, a eunuch, on the contention of being a woman, has sought the party ticket of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) to contest in the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu.

In Tamil Nadu the elections will be held on April 13 2011.

Speaking to the media, Kalki said that politics could be used as a platform to change the society’s impression of transgenders.

After filling the application, she said: “I think what made me to come here is because I come from a very stigmatized and marginalized community. As a transgender person, I feel it is time for people like us to participate in politics.”

Kalki thanked DMK party chief and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi, for the programmes dedicated to the community of transgenders and eunuchs in the state.

Kalki is a social worker and has been working for the welfare of the underdeveloped communities in the society.

She said if she wins the elections, her main focus would be to work for all the stigmatized people including women and children in the society. (ANI)
