Bhavnagar craftsman wows customers with original ceramic jewellery
May 22nd, 2010 - 9:34 pm ICT by ANIBhavnagar (Gujarat), May 22 (ANI): A craftsman of Bhavnagar’s Botad sub-district in Gujarat has claimed that he has created a new kind of ceramic jewellery.
Praveen Prajapati says he does not use expensive pearls, gems or diamonds to design his range of jewellery. All articles are made of white earthenware clay, he adds.
He claims that he is the sole distributor of ceramic jewellery to one of the leading fashion malls in the country.
“Taiwan is known for making the best jewellery using ceramic. My aim is to compete with Taiwan and to bring India at the top in ceramic jewellery,” said Prajapati.
At a time when the price of gold is soaring high, middle-class family can now opt for cheaper and attractive jewellery made of ceramic.
Prajapati has given jewellery lovers both varied and affordable designs.
He added that the ornaments might not shine like gold, but they are very popular with the youth.
“All ornaments are made of clay that look attractive on wearing. It looks extraordinary. It makes them look good also because it cannot be found in any stores,” said Himali, a customer.
The price of the jewellery ranges from Rs.10 to Rs.200. Bracelet, necklace, earrings and other such ornaments are on display at an exhibition here.
WEE-2010, a four-day exhibition, which concluded on Saturday, was organised by the ladies wing of Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI). It saw many customers opting for such ornaments.
Prajapati has been making jewellery, using earthenware clay, for many years now. He has incorporated the traditional designs of his native place in the ornaments. (ANI)
