Bangalore, Nov.30 (ANI): Devotees offered groundnuts and special prayer to Dodda Basavana or Lord Nandi here during a two-day-long traditional annual groundnut fair called Kadlekai Parishe.
The two-day fair concluded on Monday.
During this fair, farmers sell their groundnut produce directly to visitors without any middlemen.
Farmers offer their first harvest to Dodda Basavanna for good fortune.
“Last year there was a turnout of 50 to 60 lakh rupees. This year I think they will be selling more than that,” said K. Ravi Subramanya, an MLA.
Farmers from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka participated in the annual event.
The major attraction of the fair was the special decoration of the idol of Dodda Basavanna.
Foreign tourists at the fair said that it was beautiful.
“It’s really beautiful because we don’t have this kind of fair in America and so it’s nice to show my husband - he’s an American - kind of our culture and our traditions here in India. It’s been very nice,” said Sneha, a visitor from America.
Apart from the groundnuts, there are other stalls in the fair selling bangles, traditional toys, clay items, plastic dolls, glass dolls and tattoos. (ANI)
