January 3rd, 2011 - 9:01 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Jan 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) During an interview for a job, only few people are able to keep their cool. Most people figure out what they want to say during the interview but they realize rather later that things are not always as they had figured out.
There are some things that should however never be mentioned during an interview and you would do well to avoid them as well.
1. Never ask how much you are going to be paid. Some people cannot just control themselves when money is involved. They seem to think that the most important thing they have to know about their job is how much it pays. It is best to allow the interviewer to bring up the issue of remuneration.
2. Never ask what the company is about. Before you get to the interview room, you must have all the information about the company. Avoid asking questions about the company because it will greatly harm your chances of landing the job.
3. Avoid non-formal words. They may be fun when you are chatting with your friends and colleagues but using slangs and such words during an interview is a big NO.
4. Avoid speaking about your interests. To be fair, it is not because of you that the job is there. It is rather because of the job that you are there so it will be silly to talk about yourself and not the job. Asking about only your interests can cost you the job.
5. You should do well to avoid the use of offensive words. You should under no circumstance use offensive or profane words because it could mean the end of your chances of landing the job.
6. Avoid stereotyping. It may be tempting but avoid using any unorthodox term to describe any gender, race, disability or any such thing. It is a big NO.
7. Don’t bad mouth your former employer(s). This is a typical mistake that most interviewers do. Talking ill about your former employer only portrays you as an ingrate.
8. Don’t lie about your weaknesses. We are all humans. Who do not have a weakness? We all do so telling your interviewer you have no weakness only make you a liar.
9. Avoid personal tales. You must know what informational is personal and private and the information that can be shared. Avoid speaking about your private life. It is not worth it.
10. Don’t refuse the opportunity to ask question. When you are asked whether you have a question, you might do well to say “Yes”. You must at least have some questions you may want to ask, but be sure not to ask silly questions.
