Three unknown name men were swept to death by a wave of ocean at Mugu Rock, afternoon Thursday, Nov 27, while the other two survive.
Five men were enjoy taking photo of the Pacific ocean view at Point Mugu at around 2.30 p.m. , before being pulled down into the the water till death, while two of them were able to scramble to safety.
The victims ages 17, 19 and 21, names will be released after notifications of their families, Ventura County sheriff’s officials said.
The two survivals are a 17-year-old boy and a 27-year-old man who can be identified as Pedro Vasquez. Both managed to haul themselves out of the water and shout for help, and a passerby dived into the choppy ocean to try to save the other men.
Witness said the wave was about 3 feet high but that area’s surf is deceivingly powerful.
It is not yet known if the men were related.
Mugu Rock is a rocky outcropping along the Pacific Coast that’s locally famous and has appeared in the background of many TV shows, movies and car commercials.
The area, a popular destination for fishing, climbing and sightseeing, has long been known for its danger as well as its beauty.
Earlier this year, high waves swept a 16-year-old boy off the rock as he was fishing with relatives.here.
