A strong quake hit the Northeastern Sakha region of Russia today Russia at 11:56:29 AM or Sunday, June 22, 2008 at 23:56:29 UTC.
As per USGS, the magnitude of this earthquake was measured as 5.9 on the Richter scale.
The Sakha (Yakutia) Republic is a federal subject of Russia (a republic). The direct romanization of the republic’s name is Respublika Sakha (Yakutiya) in Russian and Sakha Respublikata in Sakha. At half the size of the Far Eastern Federal District, it is the largest subnational governing body by area in the world.
So far there have been no reports of damage.
