America Salutes Audie Murphy Once Again

Nov 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On the 11th of November when the United States of America celebrates its Veterans Day the name of Audie Murphy stands high. He is well remembered as the petite boy who was turned away from the Navy after his wounds in the Pearl Harbour attacks and later on became the most well known face of the Second World War. Country men showered praises and paid tribute to this great soldier on the eve of this great day.
Born to sharecropper parents in 1924 in northeastern Texas’s Hunt county Audie Murphy was the 7th of the 12th children in the family. Growing up amidst extreme poverty this frail looking boy mustered enough courage and determination to serve the nation. Though he managed to pass out in the first session of close order drills but later on his commander had even tried to pass him to the cook and bakers school. But the young boy’s earnest wish came true with his undaunting spirit and he got his break in the U.S Army .
This young man once doubted for his military abilities later on went to become the second lieutenant in 1944 and later on received 32 medals from his nation along with the highest medallion of the Medal of Honor at the age of nineteen only. Audie Murphy has to his credit of killing more than 240 foes and captivating others at the same time. He also received five honorary medals from France and one from Belgium. Later on this man joined movies and television and even penned down lyrics and composed tunes for them. Audie Murphy died in a private plane crash in 1971.
