Woollens out as rains lash Himachal

June 6th, 2008 - 12:24 am ICT by IANS -

Shimla, June 5 (IANS) Woollens have been pulled out of wardrobes in Himachal Pradesh Thursday as the mercury fell following light to moderate overnight rains throughout in the state. The rains lashed the lower and middle reaches of the state while higher areas were hit by hail and mild snow.

The met office said the minimum temperature in Shimla town dropped to 13.8 degrees Celsius, down from 15.3 degrees Celsius Wednesday.

Various areas of Shimla, including the tourists’ delight The Mall Road, were deserted throughout the day as intermittent rains kept tourists as well as locals indoor. Shimla and nearby areas recorded 47 mm of rains.

Meanwhile, traffic on National Highway 22 in Shimla district opened Thursday after two days. It was disrupted following a massive landslide near Matiana village, 45 km from here.
