Villagers lynch leopard in West Bengal
January 12th, 2010 - 1:10 am ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Kolkata, Jan 11 (IANS) Angry villagers stoned a leopard to death Monday in Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal after it entered a village and injured seven people, an official said.
The incident took place at Gadheyakuthi area Monday evening when angry villagers pelted stones at the leopard and killed it - in view of forest officials.
According to sources, the leopard entered the village in the morning and injured seven people.
A forest official was also injured by the villagers when he tried to save the animal from the public fury.
The state forest department has begun a probe into the matter.
