Vasant Kunj residents to organise cleanliness drive
May 21st, 2010 - 11:14 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 21 (IANS) In an effort to keep their locality clean, residents of south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj have come together and started a cleanliness drive ‘Come & Clean Vasant Kunj’.
Organised by Residents Welfare Association (RWA) portal - a nationwide networking portal of RWAs, building societies and colonies - the drive will be held May 22 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Babindra Gambhir, head of the RWA portal, said that such a drive “will awaken the idea of cleaning our mess ourselves.” The objective of this initiative is to spread awareness among urban residents about the necessity of clean surroundings.
The drive will see residents of the locality cleaning the streets and lanes around their blocks, pockets and sectors.
“The garbage and debris to some extent belongs to the residents also,” Gambhir told IANS.
More than 27 RWAs will participate in this cleanliness drive and the pre-event preparations have been going on for a week.
“The residents have been cleaning the area all this while with the help of MCD,” Gambhir added.
“We would also have the Delhi Waste Management, which will collect all the waste collected and dispose it in the best possible way,” Gambhir told IANS.
According the him, the success of this first of a kind initiative may also result in similar drives being conducted in other areas of Delhi and other cities.
The RWA portal has around 8000 RWAs registered from all over the country.
