US Coast Guard says Gulf oil spill to make landfall Friday
April 30th, 2010 - 12:06 am ICT by BNO NewsWASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — The U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday said that the Gulf of Mexico oil spill will make landfall on late Friday.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said BP will refund the costs of the response after oil spill, and that the government is ready to use all the resources, even the Military if needed.
The Coast Guard now estimates that the spill is around 5,000 barrels a day, which is five times more than the original estimate. Some fear the spill may result in the worst environmental disaster in years.
The April 20 explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig - off of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico - killed 11 people and injured 17 others. The platform later sank.
