New York, Mar 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A UN report released on Tuesday has recommended eco-farming as a way to curb hunger in developing countries. The report claims that eco-farming practices have proven to be a great tool to increase food security.

The report concludes that aside being helpful to the environment, eco-faming also promises to double food production within ten years. The report was compiled by UN’s special reporter on The Right To Food program, Olivier De Schutter.

Eco-farming is ongoing in 57 countries and the report claims that food productions in those countries have climbed by an average of 80 percent. De Schutter identifies that the increased output is mainly due to the fact that eco-farming protects the crops against pests and enhances the soil.

The project is ongoing in all parts of the world. 20 African countries have managed to double their food output since the commencement of the eco-farming project some ten years ago.

Food security is a major concern for the United Nations as the world’s population swell. Poor countries are most vulnerable because resources get stretched as population grows. Food scarcity is a major cause of conflicts in third world countries.
