UAE draws plan to curb emissions from aviation sector
October 12th, 2009 - 11:11 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Montreal, Oct 12, (IANS) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has submitted a plan at a global conference on civil aviation here, detailing its steps to curb future emissions from the airline sector, WAM news agency reported Monday.
The meeting was organised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Montreal Oct 7-9.
The UAE delegation was led by Saif Al-Suwaidi, director general of General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
The UAE team has submitted a working paper on long-term and medium-term plans to reduce emissions that contribute to global climate change, the report said.
This meeting recognised the importance of ICAO in providing leadership to international civil aviation in limiting or reducing its emissions, it said.
A report on the outcome of the ICAO meeting will be sent to the UN conference on climate change in Copenhagen in December 2009.
