Jaipur, March 7 (IANS) Two tiger cubs were found dead in the Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district Sunday, an official said.
“Post-mortem examination is being conducted on the cubs to ascertain the cause of their death,” a forest official told IANS.

The bodies of the 15-18 months old cubs were discovered by a forest party early Sunday in Paleda area of the national park.

According to a census conducted by the forest department in May 2009, there were 40 tigers in and around Ranthambore National Park and Sawai Madhopur wildlife sanctuary.

The census conducted in the core division from April 30 to May 10 last year revealed there were 14 males, 16 females and 10 cubs.

Ranthambore National Park, which covers an area of around 400 sq km, is one of the finest tiger reserves in the country. The park’s abandoned fortress, lakes and above all its tigers have made it one of the most filmed wildlife reserves in the world.

The park is also home to animals like the jackal, mongoose, sloth bear and leopard.

Sawai Madhopur is some 175 km from here.
