Two poachers nabbed with 95 tortoises
May 4th, 2011 - 9:36 pm ICT by IANSMainpuri (Uttar Pradesh), May 4 (IANS) Two woman who worked for a West Bengal-based gang have been arrested here with 95 tortoises, police said Wednesday.
Bindo Devi and Prem Lata, in their mid 30s, were nabbed late Tuesday near the Mainpuri railway station following a joint operation by the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the district police.
The two women admitted supplying tortoises, animal antlers, hides and skin of wild animals to clients in various states, police inspector Shrikrishna Kumar said in Mainpuri, some 200 km from Lucknow.
Some of the tortoises which were alive were handed over to forest officials.
