Two held with leopard skins in Chhattisgarh
June 15th, 2010 - 2:35 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, June 15 (IANS) Two people have been arrested from Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region with a pair of leopard skins, police said Tuesday.
The arrests were made Monday from Kumhari village in Kanker district, 210 km south of capital Raipur.
Acting on a tip off, police raided the village and arrested Leeladhar, 19, and Sukhev, 27, with the leopard skins, Kanker Superintendent of Police Rohit Yadav told reporters.
He said police were interrogating them to know where they killed the leopard. Police suspect the two are linked to an inter-state poaching gang.
Chhattisgarh has recorded a rise in arrests related to poaching of wild animals. Last week, two people were arrested with tiger skins Bilaspur town.
