Two held for killing migratory birds
January 7th, 2011 - 10:27 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Jan 7 (IANS) Two men were arrested Friday for killing migratory birds in Orissa’s Chilika lake.Santosh Swain and Manas Harichandan were taken into custody for using poisoned grains to kill the avian guests near Tangi area, range officer S.C. Behera said.
“We found 17 dead birds in their possession,” Behera told IANS.
The 100-km Chilika lake, spread across Puri, Khordha and Ganjam, attracts nearly a million migratory birds from Siberia, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and the Himalayas every year in October. The birds return in March.
