Bermuda, 15 Aug (THAINDIAN NEWS) Residents on the island of Bermuda are bracing themselves up for tropical storm Gert. Residents have moved their ships out of the ocean and homes near the coast have been fortified in anticipation for the impact of the storm. The storm is expected to strike the island on Monday.

The National Hurricane Center issued a storm warning after predicting that Gert will brush off the coast of Bermuda on Monday. The storm is however expected to get back into the open Atlantic Ocean shortly after impacting the island. Early on Monday, the Gert was moving at a speed of 45 mph and it was 170 miles south-southeast of Bermuda. The storm was said to be increasing in speed as it approached the coast.

The Hurricane Center says no other island on the Atlantic Ocean is threatened by the storm. The center predicted that Bermuda will be pounded hard with between 1 and 3 inches of rain expected to fall. Residents have been warned to move away from areas where the storm will strike hard.

The current hurricane season has been highly active but most of the storms have been limited to the ocean. Since the season started, Gert is the seventh named storm of the Atlantic.
