WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — Tropical Depression Four formed in the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Sunday morning and is expected to become a tropical storm later today, forecasters say.

The center of the depression is located about 90 miles west-southwest of Tampa, Florida and is moving toward the north-northwest at 16 miles per hour. It is expected to be near the northern gulf coast of Florida by late Sunday afternoon local time.

Tropical Depression Four currently has sustained winds near 35 miles per hour and is forecast to become a tropical storm prior to reaching the coastline. It is expected to weaken to a tropical depression on Monday after it reached the U.S. coast, and then quickly dissipate.

At 5 a.m. EDT, a tropical storm warning was issued from the Alabama and Florida border eastward to the Suwannee River in Florida. A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area within 24 hours.

When it reaches tropical storm strength later on Sunday, it will be named Claudette, the third tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
