Traditional New Year brings with it warm summer days

New Delhi, April 14 (IANS) As millions in the country celebrated the traditional New Year, people in the northern plains faced a hot summer day Monday with the temperatures in the vicinity of 40 degrees Celsius. The national capital had a sunny day as the residents felt the sting of the summer. The maximum temperature during the day was 37.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum was at 20.8 degrees Celsius.

People can have some solace from the weatherman’s forecast of rain for the region in the next couple of days from Monday.

The central India and parts of southern Rajasthan also saw temperatures soaring above the 40-degree mark. Bhopal and Nagpur cities had temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius Monday.

The Met Office has forecast that the current temperatures would show an upward trend in the coming days, leading to a heat wave situation in the central India and the adjoining areas.

Meanwhile, the northeastern city of Guwahati had another wet day, with nealy 12 mm of rain recorded. The weather office has forecast more showers for the region.
