Tornado Hits Minneapolis: Tears Down Church Roof

August 20th, 2009 - 6:53 pm ICT by GD ( 1 comment )

tornadoA 90 year old church’s steeple of metal was ripped away at around 2 pm when a tornado hit Minneapolis on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service announced tornado warnings on Wednesday noon for Minneapolis and St. Paul beforehand, after it received news of an upcoming tornado heading from the north of Minneapolis. Another one was reported 60 miles east of Emerald, Wis. The only confirmed tornado out of half-a-dozen suspected ones was 30 miles southeast of Minneapolis.

There were no reports of any casualties or injuries in the city. The winds swayed trees horrifically and sources said they did not think the winds were dangerous until it the tornado lashed upon. The city was lucky not to have any casualties because the tornado was a petrifying one. Everybody was hoping for it to recede soon.

The winds blew scattering several outdoor tents and chairs reportedly, which had been positioned for the national Evangelical Lutheran Church in America convention. When the steeple at Central Lutheran Church nearby was ripped apart, it took atleast 120 people off-guard, who were seated inside the church. A church spokesman said he was glad that nobody was hurt. The whirlwinds shattered many window panes.

Winsconsin, Iowa and Illinois were other towns which were brutally hit by the ravaging tornado. In Illinois atleast 6 people have been hospitalized who suffered storm-related injury reportedly.

Jack Freitag of Brooklyn Center said he heard a “very loud roar” when the tornado was in full swing. He was in the church lobby then.

Stephnie Covart another store staff at Electric Fetus music store (where windows broke) said, “It was the just the loudest crashing noise. We didn’t know what was happening.”

    Hi ,

Thanks for writing such an interesting article. It’s really good to know about the real estate and home decoration and renovation in detail. The roof over your head is literally your first defense against the outside elements. If your roof is in poor condition you risk serious damage to your whole house and all your belongings. Water leaks from snow and ice can do some serious damage to the entire structure of the building. Continually neglecting your roof will only make for costlier repairs down the road. The quicker you contact a reliable Minneapolis roofer to fix the problem the less it is going to cost you.

Replacing a roof can be expensive no mater what kind of roof you have. The materials are only a fraction of the total you will pay for a new roof. Labor costs will probably be your greatest expense when hiring the Minneapolis roofer . Roofing is a skilled trade that calls for knowledge in several areas including carpentry, house framing and math. Finding a roofer is the easy part. You might meet with a few obstacles however, as you seek a competent Minneapolis roofer.

    Thanks,
    - Sibley
