Tiger kills young man in Uttar Pradesh
October 4th, 2010 - 1:06 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 4 (IANS) A tiger killed a 20-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, officials said Monday.
Jagmohan, a resident of Naibasti Tedia, about 250 km from here, was mauled by the tiger in the Katarniaghat forest reserve late Sunday. He died while being taken to a hospital.
“According to reports, Jagmohan entered the jungles of Bahraich’s Mihipurwa area where the tiger attacked him. He eventually died,” Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) R.K. Singh told reporters.
While Singh said Jagmohan was attacked inside the forest range, locals alleged that the tiger strayed into the village.
“The tiger attacked Jagmohan when he was working in the fields in the village,” a villager said.
After hearing Jagmohan’s screams, locals rushed to the spot and found him injured, the villager said, adding that the locals later managed to drive the tiger away with the help of arms and sticks.
Jagmohan had severe injuries on his neck.
According to the last census, Katarniaghat recorded the presence of 58 tigers.
