Lucknow, May 18 (IANS) Forest officials were investigating the death of a tiger whose carcass was found Saturday in a canal in the South Kheri forest in Lakhimpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The tiger was not from the Lakhimpur forest and it probably died somewhere in Pilibhit district and then the carcass floated down to Lakhimpur with the water current, forest officials said.
“There are no injury marks on the carcass. Prima facie, it appears the tiger got trapped in the waterflow of the Sharda canal in Pilibhit and died,” divisional forest officer R.C. Jha told IANS.
The carcass was sent for post-mortem to the Indian Veterinary Institute, Bareilly.
