Tiger found dead in Uttar Pradesh
November 12th, 2010 - 3:04 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Nov 12 (IANS) The carcass of a male tiger, suspected to have been killed by another feline in a territorial clash, has been found in a forest area of Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district, an official said Friday.
The carcass with multiple injuries on the neck was found late Thursday evening from the Mala range of Pilibhit forest reserve.
“Prima-facie it appears that the tiger, aged around three years, died in a territorial clash with another tiger,” Divisional Forest Officer V.K. Singh told reporters in Pilibhit.
“Tigers engage in fighting while vying for space in the wild. Pug marks of another tiger have also been found at the spot where the carcass was found,” he added.
The carcass has been sent for autopsy at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Bareilly.
According to officials, Pilibhit forest reserve is home to around 40 tigers.
