Temperatures hit 42 degrees Celsius in Orissa
March 30th, 2010 - 10:43 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, March 30 (IANS) Several parts of Orissa continued to be in the grip of a heat wave which Tuesday saw two towns recording a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, the weatherman said.
“The temperature recorded at Titilagarh and Sambalpur towns (in western Orissa) were 42 degrees Celsius,” D.C. Jena, duty officer at Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, told IANS.
The other places where the mercury soared include Jharsuguda - 41.8, Talcher - 41.6 Angul - 40.7, and Bhabanipatna - 40.2 degree Celsius, he said.
State capital Bhubaneswar and its adjoining Cuttack city, however, remained slightly cooler at 37.4 and 37.1 degrees Celsius respectively, he said, adding that the heat wave conditions would prevail during the next few days.
The state government Monday confirmed the deaths of two people due to sunstroke.
