Temperature crosses 39 degrees in Orissa district
March 6th, 2010 - 1:01 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Bhubaneswar, March 6 (IANS) It’s still early March, but Angul district in Orissa is reeling under scorching heat as the temperature crossed 39 degrees Celsius in its industrial belt, officials said Saturday.
The district that is situated 161 km from here and houses many private and government factories recorded a high of 39.1 degrees Celsius Friday, a senior official of the meteorological centre at Bhubaneswar told IANS.
It has two major power plants of the National Aluminium Company Limited and the National Thermal Power Corporation.
The private companies include steel plants like Jindal Steel and Power Ltd and Bhushan Steel and Strips Ltd.
Other parts of Orissa also experienced high temperatures with Titilagarh, Sambalpur and Bhabanipatna towns recording highs of 38.5, 37.5 and 38.2 degrees Celsius respectively, the official said.
