Taipei, Oct 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau today warned that Typhoon Parma might coming towards the island, bringing heavy torrential rain, in its wake after battering and flattening the northern Philippines villages.

The Central Weather bureau also said the weather system, packing winds of up to 119km per hour and gusts of up to 155 kph, was expected to bring strong winds and rain of up to 800mm as it made a slow and a steady approach north.

A bureau official told AFP however that the weather system had made little progress towards Taiwan in last few hours and it’s strength remained unchanged.

As a preventive measure, government officials have already vacated some 1800 resident of the villages in the line of fire of Typhoon Parma and have also asked the Taiwan’s southern Hengchun area residents to take precautions against powerful winds and downpours.

The typhoon was 300km southwest of Oluanpi, the southernmost tip of Taiwan, at 1000 GMT and was predicted to circle the Bashi Channel, which divides Taiwan and the Philippines.

“The typhoon is forecast to move along the (northern) track until Monday night and then turn southwest,” the official said.
