Anchorage, Alaska, Jan.02, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The exterior of Alaska’s Mount Redoubt, which experienced a series of earthquakes last week, apparently appears to be the same, scientists have revealed. Mount Redoubt- which is also known as Redoubt Volcano, is located in the Aleutian Range of Alaska and it witnessed a number of small earthquakes that began in its summit last Sunday but subsided around mid-week.
Scientists at the Alaska Volcano Observatory had issued a volcano alert status following the occurrence of the earthquakes. However, after examining the volcano from close quarters on Thursday, the scientists have stated that the exterior of the active volcano did not undergo any transformation even after the successive earthquakes it endured over the last week.
Although, Redoubt Volcano appears to have calmed down for quite some time now, scientists at the observatory are still being careful as a result of which the alert status remains active as of now. It has been revealed that the volcano would be closely observed on a daily basis until the decision is reached to declare the volcano safe.
Tom Murray, chief scientist at the Alaska Volcano Observatory has stated that they are continuously monitoring the volcano and whether it can be considered to be safe still remains unsure. Moreover, it has also been expressed that chances are less that the volcano would erupt again until and unless it experiences further earthquakes. The investigations undertaken by the observatory has revealed that the gas emissions from Redoubt Volcano was comparatively much higher than in the month of November. At the same time, temperatures at the surface of the dome of the volcano were also found to be much higher.
