Sun shines over Chandigarh, flights may resume
January 7th, 2011 - 3:43 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Jan 8 (IANS) After days of harsh cold, the sun finally shown on Chandigarh and its neighbouring towns Friday afternoon, bringing much respite to the people. The airport authorities hoped to start operations as no flights had operated since Wednesday due to fog. “We are hoping that weather would become clear in the next few hours and flights start operating,” said a senior official of Chandigarh airport.
Rail traffic was back on track after disruptions for the last few days. All trains were running on time from the Chandigarh railway station.
“All trains are on time. We are in touch with all railway stations of northern division and there is no problem in the operations,” Chandigarh railway station superintendent D.K. Meena told IANS.
The mercury was, however, still below normal in Punjab and Haryana.
Haryana’s Narnaul town was coldest at a low of 0.7 degree Celsius, four degrees below what is normal for this time of the season.
Karnal and Hisar towns recorded minimum temperatures of 2 and 2.5 degrees Celsius.
Chandigarh saw a minimum of 4.4 degrees, three notches below average.
In Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala cities, the minimum temperature dropped to 5, 4 and 2.3 degrees respectively.
