Students hail as summer vacation extended in Orissa
June 16th, 2009 - 2:52 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, June 16 (IANS) Bringing cheer to the school children, the education department in Orissa Tuesday extended the summer vacation by a week to June 23, almost two months after the schools were closed early due to the unprecedented heat wave.
Usually the summer vacation in the state start from May 1 and ends June 16 every year. However, this year the schools announced early vacation from April 21 and the extended holiday till June 23 has added to the happiness of students.
“The government extended the summer vacation for seven more days as many places continue to witness maximum temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius,” a senior official of the state school and mass education department told IANS.
According to Bhubaneswar meteorological centre, the places witnessing over 40 degrees temperature include Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Angul and Titilagarh.
