Strong Earthquake rocks Eastern Indonesia
February 23rd, 2009 - 1:08 am ICT by adminA major quake with an initial magnitude of 6.0 rocked Kepulauan Talaud(Talaud Islands) Region in Eastern Indonesia on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at 17:45:26 UTC (Monday, February 23, 2009 at 01:45:26 AM local time UTC+8) .
The epicenter of the quake was just 318 km from Manado(One of Indonesia’s Easternmost cities).
As of yet, there have been no reports of any casualties or damages.
Talaud Islands (Kepulauan Talaud) is a group of islands located north of Sulawesi island in Indonesia. The islands were declared a regencies of North Sulawesi in 2000, Kabupaten Kepulauan Talaud. The Talaud Islands are also the northernmost region of Indonesia, bordering the Philippines, and generally west of the Sangihe Islands. The largest islands of the Talaud group are Karakelang Island, Salibabu Island, Kabaruan, Karatung, Nanusa and Miangas islands.
