Station Fire Still A Major Threat

station fireThe Station fire continues to give a reason of anxiety to residents and authorities alike, as it still holds under siege, the Saint Gabriel Mountains. The wide spreading fire has caused an excess of damage all through the region and have posed an eve greater danger to the wildlife.

The fire had started in the Los Angeles National Forest and La Canada Flintridge area on Wednesday.

By Sunday, the fast spreading blaze was reported to have consumed about 42,500 acres, according to the information of the US Forest Service Incident Chief Mike Dietrich. Dietrich said, “This is still a very serious situation.”

According to him, quite a number of structures are reported to have been destroyed in the fire. A mandatory evacuation operation has been launched all along the region (which is touted to displace about 1,000s) and people have been notified to walk away, carrying only their essential needs.

On Sunday, two firefighters were reported to have been killed while waging a battle with the fire, as their vehicle rolled off the road and steered downslope along the mountainside. Deputy Fire Chief Michael Bryant told the press, “I have some sad news to report. Two of our firefighters were in a vehicle and went over the side and both of them suffered.. life ending injuries.”

As many as 2,800 firefighters are said to be battling to subdue the Station fire. However, till now, only about 5% of the blaze has been contained. According to the US Forest Service, the menacing fire was posing a threat to as many as 10,000 homes, about 500 businesses and nearly 2,000 other structures.
