Sporadic rains lash Delhi, more to come (Lead)
September 5th, 2010 - 9:25 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS) Delhiites experienced a pleasant and wet Sunday with sporadic rains lashing the city throughout the day and once again flooding the low-lying areas.
The capital received 46.8 mm of rain from Saturday morning till Sunday 5.30 p.m., the weatherman said.
The rains brought along the usual problem of waterlogging and traffic jams in the city. Despite being a holiday, traffic was moving at a snails pace in various parts of the city.
Traffic movement was slow at Badarpur-MB Road, near Kashmiri Gate Metro Station, Azadpur-Sarai Pipalthala, New Rohtak Road-Anand Parbat, Mathura Road-Bharon Road and near the Qutub Metro Station, among others, the traffic police said.
The maximum temperature dwindled five degrees below average and was recorded at 29.2 degree Celsius while the minimum was 24.5 degree Celsius, a notch below average.
The humidity levels were on the higher side with the maximum and minimum being recorded at 98 percent and 83 percent respectively.
According to the weatherman, there may be more rains Monday.
“The sky will remain cloudy and some pockets of the city may receive one or two spells of rains or thundershowers,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to settle around 31 and 25 degrees Celsius Monday, the Met office said.
The city has so far recorded 792.4 mm of rainfall this season, 41 percent above average. In August alone, the capital received 455.1 mm of rainfall - almost 101 percent above average.
