Snowfall continues in Himachal hills

Shimla, June 2 (IANS) Snowfall in the higher reaches and intermittent rain in low and mid hills of Himachal Pradesh Thursday brought the temperatures across the state to comfortable levels, weather officials said.

“High-altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kullu and Kinnaur districts experienced moderate snow early Thursday,” a met department official said, adding the maximum temperature across the state declined by six to seven degrees while the minimum fell by two to three degrees in the past 24 hours.

Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, experienced 18 cm of snow.

The picturesque tourist resort of Manali experienced 43 mm of rain Thursday, while the majestic Rohtang Pass, just 52 km from Manali, experienced mild spells of snow.

Shimla (43.6 mm) and its nearby hills like Narkanda experienced good rainfall, the weatherman said.

Shimla recorded a low of 10.1 degrees Celsius, while it was 4 degrees in Keylong, 4.2 degrees in Kalpa, 13.5 degrees in Bhuntar and 15.1 degrees in Dharamsala.

These towns recorded maximum temperatures at 23.6 degrees Celsius, 18.6 degrees, 18.2 degrees, 28.2 degrees and 29.2 degrees, respectively.

The weather office said rain and snow would continue in the state till Friday due to active western disturbances.
