Season’s hottest day scorches Delhi, no relief in sight (Lead)
May 25th, 2012 - 8:24 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 25 (IANS) The maximum temperature in Delhi shot three notches above average to 44 degrees Celsius Friday, making it the season’s hottest day so far. Saturday’s weather is expected to be similar.
Until Friday, the highest temperature (43.1 degrees Celsius) was recorded Thursday.
The heat kept the people off the streets in the comfort of desert coolers and air conditioners at home.
“I can’t wait to get back home. The sun is simply scorching,” Raghav, an engineer, told IANS.
The scorching heat also led to various charitable organisations setting up water-stalls for passers-by in several parts of the capital.
The minimum temperature went a notch above the average to 27.8 degrees Celsius.
The weather department forecast similar weather conditions Saturday.
“We should have mainly clear skies on Saturday with the maximum and minimum temperature expected to be 44 and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively,” an official at the India Meteorological Department told IANS.
The day’s humidity saw a maximum and minimum of 32 and 16 percent, respectively.
