Reliance Hazira unit wins award for combating climate change

Mumbai, June 3 (IANS) Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL) Hazira manufacturing division has bagged the Golden Peacock Award for Combating Climate Change-2008 (GPACCC). According to a RIL spokesperson, the award was presented by Sweden’s former prime minister Ola Ulsten and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal at a convention on climate change held in Palampur (Himachal Pradesh) May 30.
The annual golden peacock awards are given by an NGO, the World Environment Foundation. This year’s award winners were selected by a jury headed by former chief justice of India and UN Human Rights Commission member P.N. Bhagwati.
Hardev Singh Kohli, RIL’s executive director, said: “Reliance is committed to promoting energy efficiency as much as controlling greenhouse gases and has initiated a number of clean development mechanism projects.”
