fire-inA rapidly spreading bush fire that had broken out at Ranch Palos Verdes is said to have destroyed almost 6 homes in its furious rampage. The fire had broken out at around 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 27. Within a span of one and a half hour, safety and evacuation warnings were sent out to residents in the area. Quite a few other structures are threatened by the onslaught of the scorching flames, as they lie in the direct line of advance of the fire. Evacuation procedures are underway, to get the people away from danger’s path and off to safety.

The Southern California seaside city of Rancho Palos Verdes (which is 20 miles from Los Angeles) appears to be threatened in a major way by the fire. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department Captain Mike Brown, the fire is raging on quite near Ocean Trails Drive and the Palos Verdes Drive.

Orders for evacuation is said to have been issued to residents on the streets of the Portuguese Bend, Amber Sky and Crest Road, in Rancho Palos Verdes. According to reports, as many as 250 firefighters as well as water dropping helicopters are waging a tough battle with the advancing flames, to bring them under control.

Fortunately, the winds are not blowing up in gales to fan the flames, which would have added to the miseries of the firefighters. The bouts of wind blowing in from the south are comparatively light. The area being dry, poses somewhat of a problem, as the condition appears to be favorable for the fire spread.

According to the fire department, almost 75 acres of land have been destroyed by the fire.
