Rainy day in capital, more spells expected (Second Lead)
September 22nd, 2010 - 9:02 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS) In what has become a prolonged monsoon, heavy rains lashed the capital Wednesday for the fourth consecutive day, resulting in waterlogging in a few areas and slowing down of traffic. The met department predicted more rains Thursday.
The city received 3.2 mm rainfall from Wednesday morning till 5.30 p.m., taking the total rainfall recorded this season to 1007.2 mm, which is 62 percent above average.
Roads were flooded in Zakhira, Punjabi Bagh club road, Dwarka underpass, and Raja Garden chowk in west Delhi.
According to the traffic police, traffic snarls were reported from across the city. Ring Road in south Delhi, Majnu Ka Tila, Sadar Bazar, Azad Market in central Delhi were the worst affected.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) received 92 complaints of water logging, 29 complaints of trees falling and 11 complaints of building-damages.
The maximum humidity level recorded was 98 percent, while the minimum was 78 percent.
The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 29.5 degrees Celsius and 24.6 degrees, respectively.
