Rains lash Delhi on Eid-ul-Azha (Second Lead)
November 17th, 2010 - 8:55 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 17 (IANS) Heavy rains lashed Delhi Wednesday afternoon making the city relatively cooler as people celebrated the festival of Eid-ul-Azha. The weather officials have predicted more rains Thursday.
Delhi received 5.8 mm of rainfall till 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The capital has so far received 24.6 mm of rainfall in November, highest in the past many years.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an upper cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan and Uttarakhand caused the rainfall over Delhi.
“More rain is forecast till Thursday,” an IMD official said.
It was an overcast sky in the morning. The minimum temperature was recorded at 18.1 degrees Celsius — a good seven notches above the average for this time of the year.
The rains brought down the day temperature by two notches at 26.1 degrees Celsius. The humidity was oscillating between 58 percent and 94 percent.
The city witnessed heavy showers last week, causing a drop in temperatures.
The weather office apparently slipped up Wednesday morning as it had forecast clear skies during the day. It poured in the afternoon.
