Rains lash capital, more showers expected (Lead)
September 20th, 2010 - 9:17 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 20 (IANS) The national capital Monday received incessant rains bringing down the temperature by several notches. The weather officials predicted more rains till Tuesday evening.
Delhi received 61.5 mm of rainfall Monday, causing waterlogging and traffic jams in a few areas.
The rains led to waterlogged roads in some areas. Vehicular movement was disrupted in places like Model Town, Dhaula Kuan, Mori Gate, Lodhi Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Inter-State Bus Terminus at Kashmere Gate, Azadpur, Najafgarh, Bhajanpura, Andheria Morh, Yusuf Sarai and parts of Ring Road, the Delhi Traffic Police said.
“The sky will remain cloudy with spells of rain, one or two may be heavy,” an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
The showers led to the temperature dipping sharply. The maximum temperature recorded Monday morning was 29.8 degrees Celsius, four notches below average. The minimum was recorded at 21.8 degrees Celsius, two notches below average.
Delhi has seen one of its wettest monsoons this year with the seasonal average of rainfall being 57 percent above the average at 1013.7 mm.
The humidity settled at a high of 100 percent.
