Rainfall in Delhi, but mercury above average
December 15th, 2009 - 12:01 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 15 (IANS) Did the dark skies and light rainfall make you wrap yourself with some extra woollies? The warm clothes were not required as the temperature despite the rain Tuesday morning remained well above average, the met department said.
On Tuesday morning, Delhi recorded 2.2 mm of rainfall.
“The rainfall has not affected the temperature. Because of a cloud cover, the minimum temperature recorded this morning was three degrees above the average, at 10.8 degrees Celsius,” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) told IANS.
While IMD has further forecasted some more rainfall through the day, the skies are expected to clear Wednesday.
“There is a western disturbance passing over Jammu and Kashmir, which has caused the sudden rainfall in Delhi. This will, however, remain only for a day,” the IMD official said.
The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 22 degrees Celsius.
The city of the Taj also witnessed rainfall early morning. The rain washed the white marble of the Taj Mahal which glimmered and looked pristine.
“Over the months, dust and sand particles had been deposited on the monument, giving it a pale look especially in the afternoons. But this morning’s shower made it look so beautiful,” Vishal, a photographer, said.
