Punjab, Haryana expect light to moderate rainfall
March 4th, 2011 - 12:19 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, March 4 (IANS) Overcast conditions prevailed in various parts of Punjab, Haryana and their joint capital city Chandigarh Friday morning, with met officials predicting light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms.
“Our department has predicted partly cloudy sky during the next 24 hours. There is a possibility of light rain and thunderstorms in many places in Punjab and at a few places in Haryana. We are also expecting winds to blow at a speed exceeding 45 km per hour at various isolated places in this region,” said a Met official here Friday.
Light to moderate rainfall has also lashed various parts of this region during the past two days, leading to a slight rise in mercury.
“We had spells of rain at different parts of this region during the last two days. This has led to a rise in mercury in this part of northern India,” said the official.
Amritsar city of Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of 11.8 degrees Celsius Friday morning that was three notches above normal. Patiala city registered 12.6 degrees, two degrees above average. Punjab’s industrial hub, Ludhiana, settled at 13.3 degrees Friday morning.
The centrally administered city, Chandigarh, recorded a minimum temperature of 12.9 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.
In Haryana, Ambala, Hisar and Karnal towns settled at a low of 14.4, 11.5 and 12 degrees Celsius respectively.
